Guess Who's Going to Super Regionals... I'll Give You a Hint, it's LSU

In what was a rollercoaster of a baseball game, LSU's offense did not give up. After every pitching blunder, the offense went back out there and just flat out mashed. Gavin Dugas homered his first two at bats and you would think that was enough. No. It seemed as if after every run LSU scored, the pitchers were like "actually, I don't want to win". It seemed like they had money on Oregon or something. I don't even know who to give the player of the game to, they were all just so great. ESPN gave it to Drew Bianco for his 2 run shot, which isn't a wrong answer. Bianco, Beloso, Dugas, Thompson, even Marceaux for closing out the game when Oregon just wasn't quitting. What is shocking though is that Crews who was red hot coming into today didn't get on base once and struck out twice. I guess he was bound to come down to Earth eventually, you can't be god forever. But it was the balk that really pushed us over the edge. The balk gave us the lead and then Thompson puts it to bed with an RBI single to give us a lead we wouldn't give back.

Never again will I give up on this team. Even when it feels like the game is over, it's not. The game isn't over until the final out is recorded. I honestly didn't think we would make it this far. After the game 1 loss to Gonzaga, a basketball school, I thought we may be able to salvage a game against what is basically a JUCO school, but then lose to whoever we had to play next. We then beat Gonzaga on our second try and then I thought, "okay here we go" and Oregon was going to expose us the first chance they got, but that didn't happen. Once we beat Oregon once, I knew we at least had a shot at winning today, but not a guarantee, not even having the odds on our side. But we did it; we pulled it out of nowhere when Oregon was just refusing to give up. I have to hand it to them, they had me on the edge of my seat all 9 innings.

And no, you're not going to read a whole blog by me without me criticizing Paul. He made stupid moves or lack there of. For starters, he only let Hilliard go one shutout inning after only throwing 14 pitches. But Hilliard just pitches 2 days ago; well so did Edwards, but that didn't stop Paul from putting him in for 20 after giving up a go ahead 2 run bomb, granted 1 run was unearned on the error by Thompson. Nor did it stop him from putting in the other 2 freshman who couldn't make a good pitch to save their lives and account for 5 of the 8 runs Oregon scored tonight. The only smart thing he did was put in Hellmers, but it took him long enough. Considering Marceaux pitched Friday, Hillard pitched Saturday, and Labas pitched Sunday, I assumed the obvious choice was to start Hellmers... but I was wrong. Hellmers was dealing for 2 solid 1 hit innings. I also didn't disagree with him on brining in Marceaux except for the fact that Marceaux was getting drained in the 9th inning after allowing 3 hits and a run. Fontenot was warm and ready to mow down hitters whenever Paul was ready, except Paul was never ready. The 9th inning would have been a whole lot shorter if he would have put in Fontenot after Marceaux's second hit given up.

But all's well that ends well.
