We Have a New Beam Queen and Her Name is Aleah Finnegan

LSU gymnastics is finally back after a two week hiatus and despite not having as high of a score from week 1, they still did pretty well considering how rusty they are. LSU was able to sneak past Georgia with a score of 196.850-196.100, down 0.100 from week 1. I fully expect them to back to full strength next week against Auburn.

First up on vault, everyone on vault did exceptionally well. Rachel Baumann of Georgia scored a vault high of 9.950 while the lowest score was Alyona Shchennikova with a 9.575, which got dropped anyway, so no harm, no foul. Georgia beat us in vault by a score of 49.325-49.150; definitely not our best.

Next up on bars, LSU did pretty well against the competition, owning the top three scores- all 9.900s; and Georgia owning the the bottom two scores- a 9.725 and a 8.975.

Now getting into the interesting events- beam and floor. As you read in the title, Aleah Finnegan came out and showed up in her first intersquad meet with a 9.875. It may not have been the highest score of the night on beam, but she certainly impressed especially considering this was her very collegiate meet (that counts). I can't wait to see what she does for the rest of the year and the next 3 years after that... 4 if we're lucky. Rachel Baumann of Georgia once again scored the highest beam score of the night with a solid 9.925, but that wasn't good enough to beat us, easily sliding past them 49.250-48.575.

Lastly, on floor, Livvy Dunne performed on floor for the first time in her collegiate career scoring an impressive 9.800, again, not the best score of the night, but good considering it was her first time. Alyona Shchennikova tied for the highest score on floor with a 9.900. There were a couple of slips on both teams. First was Georgia's Rachael Lukacs, who fell and was not even able to walk off on her own power. This knocked her score down to 9.125, but was dropped. On LSU, Elena Arenas landed poorly, falling forward onto her head, but was able to catch herself before . This lowered her score to 9.200, also dropped. LSU only beat Georgia on floor by 0.025, winning the meet 196.850-196.100.

LSU's next meet is Saturday, February 5th against Auburn in Baton Rouge at 2:45. Be there to witness one of the best teams on campus.
